I arrived at school today at 7:00am, and STILL wasn't ready for class when the students arrived at 8:04. I left school at 5:12pm. This just gets harder, although they did transfer my worst class to another, more seasoned teacher. One part of me sighs with any relief, another part really liked the challenge. To be fair, I have two graduate courses in the evenings and a full 24-period class schedule; having one less obnoxious CTT class is very much a blessing in disguise. One would think that another teacher would really help with classroom management; ones can oftentimes be wrong in assumptions.

Thinking about my friends today...wondering how Maria's pregnancy is going. Wondering if I'll ever see Andrea again; hell, wondering if I'll see Julie soon and she lives in the same borough.

I just also want you to know that I am a rude teacher. I don't let anyone charge their cell phones in my class.
"Miss, you a rude teacher." "Well, Tiesha, sometimes that happens."
I had a conference with the mom/sister of my worst student, Eddie. Trying to talk about his behavior without cursing is hilarious.
"She kicked me out of her class because I didn't know where the teacher's mailboxes were!"
"Really, Eddie? You don't think I kicked you out because you yelled 'god damn there's a lot of girl' at one of our heavyset students as she walked in the room, then refused to get out of your seat to conference and/or get any work done? Yeah, you're probably right-next time learn where to find those mailboxes."

Also, I'd like to give a big 'thank you' to whoever was conducting my g train monday afternoon...the 'thank you for riding the mta' as well as all the helpful hints about the stops really cheered my outlook on humanity. And wow, I need that.

  1. I know how you feel about that class being moved. Don't worry, It's not a defeat. My first year was awesome because the teacher that had the class before I took it over had put in motion for several of the most challenging kids to be moved to other classes.

It worked, and gave me the sanity I needed to develop as an actual teacher.
